Karin Wiseman Collection
We are so excited for the business of the Month for December! The one and only Karin Wiseman from the Karin Wiseman Collection!
Karin grew up in California in the San Francisco Bay Area and you may be surprised to know her background is not in Jewelry making! She actually has a degree from San Francisco State in Marine Biology. While working in Silicon Valley, she started making jewelry as a hobby after checking out a book from the library. She first started selling to her coworkers and after a couple of years decided to take some time off and started selling at local markets and stores.
In 2008 she met her now husband, John Wiseman, and eventually moved to Texas to be closer to John’s family. In 2010 they moved to Garland and decided to put down roots. Karin loves the movie “You’ve Got Mail” and was inspired by Meg Ryan’s character to open her own shop. After driving around Downtown Garland, she saw the potential and wanted to be a part of it. After getting to know other business owners, an opportunity came for her to open a shop and she decided to take it. We are so glad she did! After 8 months another opportunity came for her to become business partners with Trayc Claybrook on the Square. Karin and her husband John are very active in the Garland community! Karin also serves on the board for the Garland Downtown Business Association.
When you walk into Karin’s shop she wants you to feel welcome and comfortable and have a different experience of sight- sound- smell every time. She has a full range of products including things for women, men, dogs, and even baby clothes celebrating the LGBTQ community. Karin’s goal is for everything to be made in the USA and tries to buy from local makers and women owned businesses when she can. Most of her items are from real people with a story, and when she knows that story, she loves to share it! Prices are varied so there is something for everyone's budget.
One very cool thing Karin loves to do is a lot of people will bring in jewelry pieces from family members and she will rework them and make them more meaningful. She loves doing custom pieces. She’s done everything from weddings to memorial pieces. When you buy from Karin you know you are wearing a handmade piece that no one else will have.
Karin’s demeanor is happy and infectious. You immediately feel welcome, safe, and seen. Many times people will come in just to talk to Karin and feel heard. Karin has created something magical with her collection and we encourage everyone to come and be a part of it.
